Obituary For Sarah Cooper

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Smarr Cooper, 94, of Kings Mountain,NC passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday evening, January 28, 2026. She was born April 14, 1931 to the late Anderson and Minnie (House) Smarr, she was the youngest of nine siblings.

Sarah loved life, and never met a person, animal or outdoor flower she didn't love! Over the years she embraced many who became life long friends. She made pets of not only cats and dogs, but also chickens, ducks, possums, and goats! She also had the greenest of thumbs. All she needed was “ just a little piece” of any flower or plant and she could root it, and make it grow! She also loved fishing, picking and canning blackberries and cooking for large groups of
family and friends.

At a late age, she studied with and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall and public witnessing with the West Gastonia congregation until her health started to decline.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children Beverly Erwin, Sonya Craig (Lloyd), and Walter Cooper, Jr. (Julia). Her grandchildren Javryck Omalli Smarr, William Spencer Erwin (Tobi),
Quinston Taylor, Sydney Pierce Garcia (Randy) great-grandchildren Isaiah Henderson, Zalina Delores Garcia, William Asher Erwin, Zaylee Ramani, special niece Eunice Barton, special
friends Vivian Hood, Ruth Davis, Lisa Law, Leah Law, and Klarita Becerra, along with a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from coast to coast, Columbia, South
America and the Dominican Republic.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Cooper, Sr., her son, Andrew Chester “AC” Smarr, her brothers, Ben House, Walker Smarr, Chester Smarr,
Edward Clifford Smarr, Sr., John Thomas Smarr, James Madison Smarr, Mason Smarr, Luther Smarr and one sister, Clara Mae “Little Mama” Williams.

A Memorial service will be held February 28, 2026 at Trackview Hall 205 S. Battleground Avenue, Kings Mountain, NC 28086, with family visitation at 2:30 pm followed by a Memorial Talk at 3:00 pm.
