Obituary For Norma Lee Childers
The most classy and joyful Norma Childers was born in Kings Mountain, NC on November 6, 1947, to the late beloved Landy Wood Childers and Juanita Childers. She departed this life on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Atrium Health Huntersville Oaks in Charlotte, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Fred Smith) daughter, (Jada Smith) one sister and brother-in law (Sybil Morgan/Don Morgan) and one brother (Elwood Childers). Norma professed her life to Christ at an early age and joined Vestibule A.M.E. Zion Church as a child with her parents and siblings.
She had a strong work ethic and was employed at IBM, in Durham, NC as a Computer Specialist and later retired. She relocated to Charlotte, NC to be with her daughter, and continued her gardening and love for ALLLL animals. Norma was affectionately known as “Aunt Norma” from her nephew, nieces, great niece, nephew and great-great nephew. She was always known as a faithful daughter, loving mother, supportive auntie, compassionate, tell it like it is cousin and dear friend to many. Spending time with her and listening to her play the piano was one of our favorite pass times. She also loved the life of Truck driving instilled in her from her father and later trained her nephew Guan on how to drive and use the radio in a good but hilarious way. Norma leaves many fond and loving memories that we will forever cherish.
She is survived by nephew, Guan Childers (Alicia Childers) of Atlanta, GA; Ivory Lisa Kennedy-Childers, niece, Marquise Mattis, great nephew and Deborah Kennedy, sister in-law of New York City, NY; Lisa Childers, niece of Atlanta, GA; Kesha Childers, great niece and Jeremiah Childers, great-great nephew of Charlotte, NC who will all forever cherish the family name. In addition, some extraordinary cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of dear friends at Atrium Health Huntersville Oaks.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Vestibule AME Zion Church. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:00 prior to the service.
