Mary McNeil, 82 of 3973 Mohawk Court, Charlotte transitioned from her earthly home December 19th, 2025 at University Place Nurse and Rehabilitation Center, Charlotte.

Mary, known to her family as “Fat” was a graduate of Compact school in Kings Mountain NC in which the Bible was one of their text books. Out of high school she worked for the Gastonia Country Club before she moved to New York with her sister that she loved dearly Ella Cureton. Always on the move, Mary moved to Miami Florida then back to New York were she married James McNeil and worked as a nurse. Mary was a devoted wife and mother and endured much before she moved back home with her children to Kings Mountain, NC. Mary would venture out once again to live in Gastonia, NC and work at Highland nursing and Rehab as a CNA.

Mary absolutely loved her family. Her children and grandchildren called her Mommy. Mommy enjoyed watching her stories during the day and watching movies like "The Temptations” and “Chuck Norris” with her grandkids at night. She loved singing and dancing to Motown music. She was a sharp dresser, had a green thumb and was an excellent story teller. Mommy thought way ahead of her time. She was a voter and instilled the importance of keeping up with politics in her family. She was very instrumental in the lives of her family by how she cooked full course meals. Her fried chicken was the best. She helped Grandma Doll with Big Momma and her Aunt Kattie when they were not well. She was always with her grandchildren helping to raise them, helping them with homework and teaching them their lines in church Christmas and Easter skits. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her family including giving the shirt off her back. She was always there for us. Mommy attended Mount Olive Baptist church with her daughter and grandchildren until she was no longer able to attend in person.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents James and Elma Cureton and her husband James McNeil and brother James Cureton Jr. and sister Ella Cureton. She left an Uncle Beauford Byrd 5 children Maurice (Arvette) Cureton, Teresa Harris, Deborah Lenair, Calista Grier and Sabrina McNeil. 15 Grandchildren Torrey Cureton, Chakka Kwuntua, Shanika Lipscomb, Todd McNeil, Marvin Cureton, Christopher(Myetta) Leach, Gregory McNeil, India (Randy) Williams, Courtney Thompson, Ebony Leach, Cameron (Jasmine) Brown, Furman Thompson II, DaQwuan Leach, Aeanna Camp and Toni Diew. 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mommy’s legacy of love for life and Faith in God and devotion to her family lives on in each and every one of us.

Funeral Services were held Friday December 26th, 2025 at Mt Olive Baptist Church were the Rev Dr. Charles Webber Eulogized her.

Burial took place at Mt Olive Memorial Cemetery, KIngs Mountain.
