Mr. Lawrence Anthony "Tony" Gass was born on March 4, 1969, in Cleveland County to the late Carrence and Cora Lee Gass. He peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Wendover Hospice in Shelly. To those who knew and loved him, he was affectionately known as, "Tony the Tiger," a name that fits his strong personality and his warm spirit.

Tony grew up attending Adams Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was first introduced to the faith that stayed with him throughout his life.

He attended Hunter Huss High School and graduated in 1987. He later went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.

Tony will be remembered for his strength, his kind heart, and the way he made people feel, seen, valued, and loved. He had a warm spirit and he possessed a rare way with words that would bring comfort and encouragement to those around him.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his only sister, Sheila Gass of the home. His Big Cousin Rebecca Reid of Kings Mountain, N.C. Two uncles: Ernest Roberts of Gastonia, N.C. and Jerome Gass (Madeline) of Shelby, N.C. Two Junts: Geneva Ellis (James) of Kings Mountain, N.C. and Barbara Roberts of Charlotte, N.C. and a host of relatives and friends.

Tony's life was a testament to faith and perseverance; he had a rare gift for finding peace in the midst of a storm, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Memorial and Burial Services were held May 16th, 2026 at Adams Chapel Church Cemetery.
