Obituary For Clyde Patterson, Sr.

Reverend Clyde Patterson, Sr., of Alton, VA, was sent home on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1943, to Clayton and O. V. Patterson. He attended Cleveland County Public Schools for a short time before he had to quit school to help provide for his family. He was adored by many. He was well known for his mechanical skills. He owned his junk yard, Patterson’s Auto Repair and Junk Yard, in Woodbridge, VA. When you stop by to get your vehicle repaired, you would leave with a little more knowledge of the Lord. Clyde would travel all over to assist family and friends with auto concerns or any type of handyman repairs.

During his time of working closely with Bishop Norman Howard, he was introduced to Christ and began serving the Lord. His faith began to grow in Christ, and he placed his life in God’s hands. Everywhere he went, he would speak about the goodness of Jesus with “Tears of Joy”. His favorite scripture and verse was from Psalms 24 verse 1. You would never leave him without hearing him say, “Thank you, Jesus, Praise the Lord” multiple times in conversation. He loved “Holy Ghost” parties. No matter the situation, Clyde would tell you to have someone agree in prayer and just believe. His faith in God was not ordinary. God’s power was demonstrated through his faith. He saw many miracles and signs of wonder. He placed his trust in God with everything. When he fell out of a tree while working, he would not go to the doctor but prayed and was healed by God. He was so “Jesus-focused” that he never put his trust in man. Even up to his last days of his life, he would say, “All things are possible, if you just believe” (Mark chapter 9: verse 23).

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and O.V. Patterson, his sisters, Hattie Davis, Evangelist Letha Bristol and Rev Nancy Brown, his brothers, Rev James Patterson, John Patterson, Jerry Patterson, Charles "Chunk" Patterson and Larry Patterson, his daugther Felicia Moore and his son, Joseph Patterson.

Clyde leaves to cherish his fond memories, his children, Clyde Patterson Jr, Michael Patterson(Norma), Lisa Pratt, Clyde "Rabbit"Barbour, jr., Tammy, "Tammy Lamb" Howard(Tony), Erwin Patterson, Minister Jermain Patterson(Sabrina), India "Peaches" Hill(Tony), Angel Downey(Eric) and Rachel Patterson, his sister, Mary Odems, 25 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, May 31, 2025 and Adams Chapel AME Zion Church, Kings Mountain. Burial took place at the church cemetery.
