Carole Lynn Rainey, age 73, a resident of 407 E Ridge Street, Kings Mountain, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2018. She was born October 25, 1944 in Cleveland County to the late Tommie L. Hickman Sr. and Eunice M. Hickman. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mae Frances Johnson; sister-in-law, Octavia Hickman and great nephew, Corey Leach.
She was an attendee of Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church; whereby attending until her health declined, but never losing her zest for The Lord or the love for her church family. She was a 1962 graduate of Compact High School in Kings Mountain. She also maintained a long work history between Clevemont Mills and Mauney Hosiery, both in Kings Mountain. Carole was loved as a neighborhood mother; she loved laughter, comedies, music and an avid sports fan.

Hickman Jr. of Long Island, NY; sister, Joanne Phillips of New Rochelle, NY; nieces and nephews, Christopher Johnson (Lakeisha Johnson) of Hickory, NC, Curtis Hickman of Gastonia, NC, Andria Hickman (Natilee Belle) of Round Rock, TX, Victor Hickman (Diane Hickman) of Bowie, MD, Terrie Hickman and Todd Hickman of Long Island, NY; grand-children, Lorlita Spann of Atlanta, GA, Ambria Rainey of Greensboro, NC, Nielah Rainey of Atlanta, GA, Teranae and Wylie Rainey of Kings Mountain; great-grandchildren, Zaria Rainey and Levi Watson of Greensboro, NC. She also leaves 16 great nieces and nephews, and 15 great great nieces and nephews, and many extensions to the family.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 20th, 2018 at Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church, 213 North Cansler Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. Time is set for 2 pm. Visitation of family and friends will be from 1:30 to 2 at Bynum Chapel.
Ricky Jerome Sanders, 61, a native of Gastonia, died December 14, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center of Gastonia.
Ricky was born April 22, 1956 in Gastonia, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Theodore Smith and Dorothy Paden.
He attended West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte and after graduation, worked for Homelite for 15 years.
He was married for 36 years to Marva Jo Sanders. Survivors include 3 sons, Lamont, Ricky and Brandon(Conankia), 3 grand-daughters; Jasmine, Kaliayh and Briana, 4 brothers, Michael, Tony, Darrell and Donald, 1 sister, Shelia Ross.
Funeral Services will be held December 19, 2017 at the Genesis Church, MLK way, Gastonia beginning at 2 pm. The family will receieve friends from 1:30 to 2 at the church. Burial will be private.
Mr. Leroy Watkins, 72 was born to the late James. P. Watkins and Louise Adams Watkins on October 25, 1945 in Cleveland County, N.C. He departed this life December 5, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Hospital in Gastonia, N.C.
He Attended Compact High School in Kings Mountain, N.C. and was a lifetime member of Galilee United Methodist Church where he was member of the senior choir. LeRoy and his brother, James Watkins were gifted with the ability to play the Lead Guitar. He was a member of the gospel groups, Jack Adams and the Friendly Five and the well renowned, Wings of Faith. He was employed with John Jenkins as an Assistant Foreman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Anetra Watkins, a sister, Mrs. Delores Ann Cole and brother, Richard Watkins.
He leaves precious memories of his life in his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Watkins, daughters, Collette Watkins and Edna Davis, sisters, Nancy Thompson and Mary Lou Watkins, brothers, James and Chris Watkins.
Funeral Services were held Friday December 15, 2017 at Galilee United Methodist Church. Burial took place at Galilee United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Emma Ree Beard Blalock, 79, received the call to enter her eternal rest on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at White Oak Manor and Hospice in Kings Mountain, NC. Emma was born June 16, 1938 in York, SC to the late Samuel and late Reverend Evelyn Beard. She was married for 49 years to the late John Lewis Blalock and from this union, 2 sons.
At the age of 13, Emma started her interest in piano and played and taught music. For a number of years, she was pianist for Philbert Zion and later Vestibule AME Zion Church. She worked with the music department and served as deaconess at Bynum Chapel AME Zion Church, Kings Mountain. In 1961, she graduated valedictorian from Compact High School. She continued her education at Winston Salem Teachers College. After
graduating college, she taught school for over 32 years. She taught for a number of years at South Cleveland Elementary, and she taught special education at Cleveland High School. Later she taught in Kings Mountain School system K-3 until retirement. Emma and her husband were entrepreneurs, operating an Herb store in Kings Mountain. Her hobbies/passion were shopping at flea markets and fishing. She also had the skills to sew beautiful clothes.
She leaves to cherish her fondest memories: her sons, Bernard “Butch” Blalock (Yolanda) of Gastonia, NC and Jamal Mustafa (Robin) of Sacramento, CA; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 4 sisters, Loretta Wallace (Jeff) of Shelby, NC, Reverend Georgia Guest of Shelby, NC, Florence Floyd (George), Kings Mountain, NC and Yvonne Beard of Shelby, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Vestibule AME Zion Church, starting at
1:30. Visitation of Friends And Family will be held at Vestibule from 1 to 1:30. Burial will take place
at Vestibule Cemetery.
Nikki Yannette Caldwell, 45 of 3209 West Blvd, Charlotte, died
November 14th, 2017 at her residence. She was survived by her
Daughters, Chaslyn and Kaitlyn..her Mother, Vickie Caldwell Patterson, Father, Odell Stinson, Brother, Adrian Caldwell, 6 grandchildren.

Isabell Burris Watson, a devoted wife, mother, granny, was born May 14, 1929 in York, South Carolina. She was the oldest of twelve siblings born to James Edward and Rosie Bell Ratchford Burris. After a lengthy illness, she answered the call to the Lord and went home Tuesday, October, 31, 2017 at White Oak Manor Nursing Facility, Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
Isabell was married to the late Freddie Lee Watson and to this union seven children was born; four girl and three boys. As of today, there are currently five generations.
Isabell was a Homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family, cooking and cleaning was her trade. I think her children and grandchildren who had the opportunity to dine at her table are still having flashback about the pan of hot biscuit and flat cake bread, her homemade soup and sticky.
She joined Langrum Branch Baptist Church at an early age. She was a faithful member until her failing health. She and her husband were the oldest married couple of the church. She was also a member of the Burial Aide Society.
Isabell was preceded in death by her parents James and Rosie Burris, her sisters; Mary Lee Burris, Nellie Rose Burris Crockett, Pearl Burris Wilson, her brothers; Luther Clinton Burris, and James William Burris.
Left to cherish her fondest memories are children: her sons; Freddie Watson, Jr., of Gastonia, North Carolina, Johnny Watson (Roxanne) and Charles Watson of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Sammie Lee Williams (Mattie) of Clover, South Carolina, her daughters; Ella R. Henderson (James) of Gary, Indiana, Christine Watson, Carrie W. Feemster (Clinton) and Tillie L. Watson of Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Her Siblings; Ella Kee (Nelious), Gladys Webber, Jessie Mae Ross (Joseph), Josie Walker, Ida Sanders, Lonnie Burris (Gladys), a sister-in-law; Gloria Burris, niece; Pearline Alston, and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and host of other nieces, nephews, and family and friends.
A Funeral Service was held November 4th, 2017 at Langrum Branch Baptist Church, York, SC. Burial
took place at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
Ms. Grace “Ann” Byrd, 68, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at Carolina Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.
She was a native of Kings Mountain, NC born November 10, 1948 in Cleveland County, daughter to the late Carl Crocker, Sr. and Geneva Bell Crocker.
Ms. Byrd is survived by one son: Brian Crocker (Shelley), of Rutherfordton, NC; five daughters: Annette Adams ([late] Danny) of Rock Hill, SC, Rhonda Jordan (Derik) of Kings Mountain, NC, Bobbie Gentry (Kevin) of Gastonia, NC, Robin Lowery (Timothy) of Charlotte, NC, Tanya Burgess (Milton) of Athens, GA; five brothers: Roosevelt Crocker ([late] Mae) of West Haven, CT, Carl Crocker, Jr. (Daisy) of West Haven, CT, Ricky Crocker of Kings Mountain, NC, Michael Crocker of New Haven, CT, Scottie Crocker of Bessemer City, NC, fifteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, two brothers preceded her in death: Larry Crocker and Bobby Crocker.
Memorial Services were held September 29th, 2017 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church Gastonia.
Burial took place September 30th, 2017 at Mt. Olive Memorial Park, Kings Mountain.
